As a former Professor, Director of a Youth Mentorship Program and the son of a CPS teacher, Lamont has dedicated his entire career to being a champion for quality education. As a State Representative, Lamont was instrumental in securing funding and resources for neighborhood schools.
As Alderman, Lamont will:
- Increase funding and staffing for CPS schools through a combination of new revenue sources and reallocation of existing funds. He will prioritize funding for under-resourced schools and programs that serve low-income and minority students.
- Increase funding for early childhood education programs and before and after school programs.
- Increase funding to hire additional school counselors and social workers.
- Increase funding to make sure that all CPS schools have safe buildings and resources, such as technology, books, and supplies.
